Ned Foltz 2001 Signed Redware Cachepot With Sgraffito Decoration and Twisted Rope Closed Handles
This Foltz redware cachepot with twisted rope closed handles is crafted in the old Pennsylvania German tradition of redware making. The decoration is through the sgraffito method which is fully glazed, but has the raised relief feel to it when you run your fingers over it.
Google AI states: " Sgraffito in redware pottery making is a decorative technique where a layer of colored slip or underglaze is applied to red earthenware clay, and then scratched through to reveal the contrasting color of the clay body beneath."
From the cradle of origin. Denver, PA ( my location ) is only 2 miles away from Reinholds, PA where Ned Foltz and a few in his circle create his redware collectible masterpieces from. I bought all the Ned Foltz Redware items that I am listing or going to list from a local resident who states they had them since the early 2000's when bought locally, so technically these are 'one owner' if you are counting me only as an intermediary step or temporary owner as I do.
This cachepot is 6" in diameter ( 6.5" if including the handles )
Almost 4" tall and weighs 1.75 pounds.
Condition is very good to excellent In very good to excellent condition both structurally and the fired on glaze. No cracks or chips in the redware and the finish is lustrous- no mars or cracking.
