An exceptional quality cloisonné matt enamel bowl on brass or bronze with a very highly detailed and highly stylised fantasy mediaeval jousting competition, amidst a forest, and surrounded by vignettes of hunting, dancing, and royal presentation, on a mottled blue-green ground, which matches the verso.
Made in the 1970s by German painter and celebrated enamel artist, Walter Lochmüller (1905-1992). Unsigned. This piece is attributed to the mentioned designer/maker. It has no attribution mark and no
official proof of authenticity,
however it is well documented in design history. I take full responsibility for any authenticity
