A pedestal or side table in solid oak, 1920s, Dutch Art Deco, Amsterdam School. Nicely shaped rounded legs. The three leg design is characteristic for the period and gves the table different appearances when viewed from certain angles. After almost 100 years it is still stable and sturdy with only minor signs of age and use.

The table is constructively in very good condition. The top has a slight warp or bend but it does not compromise the stability. The table stands stable and can carry a heavy weight.

The Amsterdam School started as a group of friends that took over power in the Amsterdam architectural society Architectura et Amicitia in 1916. Not being literally a school, the ''Amsterdam School'' was a movement in art and architecture. Followers such as Michel De Klerk, Hildo Krop, Piet Kramer, Joan van der Mey, Margaret Staal-Kropholler, Jan Gratama and Hendrik Wijdeveld had grand and political ideals to achieve innovative architecture and urban planning.
These Amsterdam School artists searched for new forms that matched their vision of society. It was time to break with old traditional forms. The Amsterdam School style is recognizable by their expressive use of color and materials and rich, imaginative decorations. See less
