A rare and visually arresting hand-colored fraktur birth and baptismal certificate, dated 1794 and originating from the Pennsylvania German community of Franklin County, Pennsylvania. This richly decorated example features a central sunburst flanked by two winged angels in vivid red robes with ochre-gilded wings, surrounded by stylized roses, doves, and heart cartouches—classic motifs of 18th-century devotional folk art.
The certificate commemorates the birth and baptism of Jacob, son of Friedrich Zimmer and Anna Margretha née Fuermann, born in 1794 and baptized in Franklin County. Printed in Fraktur blackletter and filled in by hand, the piece offers both genealogical and artistic interest, capturing the deeply rooted spiritual traditions of early German-speaking settlers in America.
Beautifully framed under glass with archival matting. A stable horizontal tear runs across the center of the document but has been professionally mounted and remains secure in the frame. The colors retain exceptional vibrancy for its age, and the piece presents beautifully overall.
