casket with lid engraved with a gallant country scene. All sides are decorated with plant motifs and triumphs. Under the scene on the lid is the inscription in french "scene d'amour".

the interior was originally lined with quilted blue satin and blue/gold braid, which can be easily restored, thanks to the perfectly functioning attachments inside the box.
the wmf hallmarks under the base indicate that it was produced in the period 1903-1910, that it has undergone a process to have an artificial browning of the surface of the silver (hallmark "ox": "oxydiert" in german) and that in the plating (indicated by the hallmark "ep") a normal thickness of silver was used deposited on the surface of the base metal (hallmark "i/o": 60 grams of silver for 24 forks or spoons).
there is also a fragment of the original label under the base.
this is an object that was produced for export to france, an activity that stopped in 1914.

wmf was originally called metallwarenfabrik straub & schweizer and opened as a metal repair shop. Through mergers and acquisitions, by 1900 it was the world's largest manufacturer and exporter of metal household goods, mainly in the jugendstil or art nouveau style, designed in the wmf art studio under the guidance of albert mayer, a sculptor and designer, who was director from 1884 to 1914.
