A beautiful hand-painted ceramic centrepiece from the renowned Czech workshops of Amphora. Embellished with round and oval shapes designed like semi-precious stones, it exudes timeless elegance and opulence.
Dating back to the 1920s, this piece embodies the artistry and sophistication of the era, displaying intricate detail and craftsmanship. Every stroke of the artist's brush reveals a dedication to perfection, creating a mesmerizing visual spectacle that captivates: the fusion of delicately painted gemstones and the rich, earthy tones of the ceramic base lend a sense of luxury and refinement to any space.
Jugendstil - the Germanic name for the sinuous, ethereal design style better known as Art Nouveau - has rarely found a better expression in ceramics than in the kilns of Amphora. In 1892, Austrian ceramist Alfred Stellmacher and four relatives opened a workshop that produced terracotta with plants, animals, mythical creatures, simulated jewelry and even portraits in the style of Gustav Klimt and other fashionable painters of the time. Each piece is signed Amphora. The factory also produced hoods, bowls, tureens and other diverse shapes. Located in the former spa town of Turn-Teplitz (now part of the Czech Republic), the Amphora factory took advantage of the abundant kaolin in the local riverbeds and the energy produced by the rivers themselves to produce its extraordinary pieces.
Amphora pieces were painstakingly crafted using a method that included detailed sketches, intricate carvings and moldings, and luminous iridescent glazing. This culminated in repeated firings of the clay, sometimes as many as ten times. As a result, the company gained worldwide acclaim, winning gold medals at the Chicago and St. Louis World's Fairs. Its pieces were sold by luxury emporiums such as Tiffany & Co. This piece has an attribution mark,
