Vicke lindstrand rare and large 'dykare' or 'diver' vase in etched glass for orrefors, sweden, 1930s. A very rare and mesmerizingly beautiful 'diver' vase by vicke lindstrand for orrefors - designed in 1934. A wonderful design with a stylized diver in a very distinct art deco fashion. Beautiful details and quality viewed up close - combined with a modernist and timeless base shape of the vase. A true gem and museum quality - not easy to find these days. About lindstrand at orrefors, lindstrand’s work was marked by a daring departure from traditional motifs. While the company had built its reputation on elegant restraint and naturalistic decoration, lindstrand injected the medium with a humanist and contemporary energy. He designed vessels not merely for function or formality, but as canvases for narrative, movement, and mood. His engraved and etched glass, often featuring stylized figures, dancers, divers, and abstracted nature, offered a cinematic quality influenced by the age of art deco and the rising fascination with the machine age and modern life. These pieces often captured moments mid-motion, a swirl of fabric, a poised dive, or a figure in quiet contemplation. The human body, stylized yet emotive, became a recurring theme, executed with a confident hand and a distinct sense of rhythm. Though lindstrand would later go on to work for upsala ekeby and kosta boda, his 1930s tenure at orrefors remains foundational. His glass featuring the optimism and experimentation of its time. These pieces, now prized by collectors, speak not only of technical mastery but of an artist willing to push boundaries in a medium often bound by tradition. This vase comes in a very good and original condition with a very minor chip at the underside - hardly visible. This piece is attributed to the mentioned designer/maker. It has no attribution mark and no
official proof of authenticity,
however it is well documented in design history. I take full responsibility for any authenticity
