Danièle Perré was born in 1924. She grew up in the Buttes Chaumont district, a poetic and contrasting Paris where aesthetic impulses dive into uneven cobblestones and wild roots. From this city, the young painter launched his imagination in broad strokes, on vast canvases, a world of wrecks washed up by the sea, gutted boats caught in mudflats, gnarled and strong roots, striking, violently colored paintings. Danièle Perré painted her first canvases, always large-format, in 1952, and her last in 2005.
Self-taught, advised and supported by the painters Breuillaud and Jacques Villon, she won her first prize in 1955, the Prix de la Société des Amateurs d'Art et Collectionneurs. Buoyed by the success of her paintings, notably a portrait of Jacques Villon that attracted attention in the press in 1956, as well as the publication of lithographs by Fernand Mourlot, Danièle Perré began exhibiting in 1957. Her works could be admired at the Salon de Mai, the Salon des Indépendants, and then, quickly, at the Musée Galliéra and in the gallery of Camille Renault, a patron and lifelong friend. The painter created stained-glass windows, notably for the Saint-Jean-Baptiste Church in Caen. Her exhibitions were numerous and sought-after.
From 1958, Danièle Perré exhibited abroad, and her work enjoyed an undeniable international reputation. Among the galleries and museums that welcomed her throughout her career were the Pensacola Museum, the Far Gallery in New York, the museums of Bratislava and Prague, the Institut de France in Tel Aviv, and the Nicolas Sursock Museum in Beirut. Since the 1980s, Japan and China have celebrated the French painter. Her last Asian exhibition was held as part of the "France-China-Japan Contemporary Art Exhibition" in 2006. Danièle Perré passed away in 2009.
