This vintage Afghan Maimana Kilim, measuring 6'10" by 9'6", is handwoven with wool on a wool foundation by the Maimana tribes of Northern Afghanistan. Kilims and flat weaves are characterized by their pile-less construction, achieved through the tight interlacing of warp and weft threads to create a smooth, flat surface. Typically produced on horizontal looms, this method results in sharp geometric patterns. Lighter and softer than traditional pile rugs, kilims have been used as sofa covers, drapes, pillows, tablecloths, wall hangings, and as insulation against severe cold.
