The plate has the Spode mark incised and stamped, used until 1833. It belongs to the series of Italian views. The scene is probably taken from an engraving entitled "Vue de Tombeau de Plautius", made by Georg Abraham Hackert inspired by Philipp Jakob Hackert around 1780. This piece has an attribution mark,
