The figures are identical, but in … Read more In Hans Flach's book Ludwigsburg Porcelain, there is a similar figure on page 516. The figures are identical, but in mine, the man is holding the flute. In the illustration in the book, the flute is leaning against the man's leg.

Created towards the end of the 18th century. The two figures stand on a slightly raised, irregularly shaped base; their clothing and accessories are finely modelled and painted in delicate colours.

The group bears the Ludwigsburg manufacturer's mark on the underside. A very similar design is illustrated on page 516 of Hans Dieter Flach's ‘Ludwigsburger Porzellan’ (Ludwigsburg Porcelain); there, the man's flute rests against his leg, whereas in this example it was originally held in his hand.

The group of figures has been professionally restored. There is a fire crack on the edge of the base and restorations to the hurdy-gurdy, stick and hat of the farmer; the man's flute is missing. Overall, the piece is in good decorative condition and displays the typical quality and charm of Ludwigsburg porcelain. This piece has an attribution mark,
