manufacturing and construction characteristics

we offer a rare pair of venetian-made nightstands that can be dated precisely to the 18th century and more precisely to the so-called transition period between louis xv and louis xvi.
the still wavy legs on the rectilinear body in fact refer to the preceding baroque period.
these cabinets represent a notable example of venetian cabinetmaking of the period, characterized by formal elegance and executive mastery.

construction and stylistic analysis:

wood essence: the supporting structure is made of solid fir wood, on which the walnut veneer arranged in a herringbone pattern highlights the compact grain and the notable hardness of the essence.
the exposed surfaces, including the top, drawer front and door panels, are finely veneered with carefully selected walnut and cherry burl slabs, arranged to create refined grain patterns (book or herringbone) that enhance their intrinsic beauty. Finish and patina: the surface has a shellac polish that gives it a deep color and a distinctive shine. Upper top: owl's beak perimeter edge. Drawer: a single drawer in the upper part.
the handle is characterized by an original brass knob. Lower compartment: a hinged door, with a coordinated veneer to the drawer, hides a functional internal compartment. Legs: the four curved legs with accentuated "cabriole" curvature are typical of the venetian rococo and baroque repertoire.

condition: excellent conservation conditions for the age, restored and polished with shellac.
