Signed … Read more A vintage watercolor capturing a statue of an ascetic in a garden by Theodore Ernest Langguth (German-American, 1861-1952). 1915-20. Signed "T. Langguth" in lower left. Born in Germany on Dec. 15, 1861. Langguth had a studio in Paris during the 1880s. In 1889 he arrived in San Francisco where he advertised as a portrait painter. In 1893 he joined the art department at the Examiner newspaper as an engraver and headed that department for 40 years. After the earthquake of 1906, he moved across the bay to Berkeley into a home at 101 Parkside Drive where he remained until his death on May 30, 1952. Exh: SF Newspaper Artists, 1903.
