A fabulous set of two French Faience Quimper Porquier Beau plates handpainted in the Rouen style with a regional coat of arms in the center, a floral cornucopia motif border, and an elegant scallop edge accentuated with a French blue outline. The two plates feature the Coat of Arms for the French seaside town of Brest and for the region of Bretagne (Brittany) in the center and they are signed on the reverse with the overlapping PB mark of the Porquier Beau factory, indicating they were produced between 1894 - 1903.
Reference: The Bretagne plate is shown on page 21 of the book Quimper Pottery A Guide to Origins, Styles, and Values by Adela Meadows, and a set of these plates were shown in the Faience de Quimper Porquier Beau Exposition from 1998 - 1999 and featured in that exposition's catalog.
In excellent condition for 19th century faience with some areas of thin glaze on the rims with associated wear.
