The vase presents a globular form, cast in bronze and finished with an irregular yaki-urushi (kiln-baked lacquer) patina in a richly mottled watermelon green tone. The surface displays remarkable depth and variation, with subtle shifts in hue and texture that speak to the hand-crafted nature of the process and the experimental spirit of early 20th-century Japanese decorative arts.

Sessei’s work is known for bridging traditional Japanese metalwork with emerging modernist sensibilities, and this piece exemplifies that balance—restrained in form yet visually dynamic in surface treatment.
