The artist has masterfully incorporated a smooth glazed finish in the center and on the inside of the pot and its lid, while keeping everything else in its original, rough, earthenware state—which was no easy feat! The pottery colors range from a deep mauve (at the top), and transition into a lighter mauve, finally fading to an orangish clay color (an ombré effect). The glazed colors meld from a muted green to a soft, sky-blue, accented with flecks of brown and yellow crystal “runs”—just stunning!
If you’ve ever suffered through a pottery class, trying to “throw” a pot or bowl, only to have an uneven, disfigured mess—wearing more clay on your clothes, face and hair—then you can TRULY appreciate the symmetry of this piece! ;)
The inside of the pot is glazed in a soft, robin’s egg blue, with splashes of brown, green and yellow crystal runs—making the inside water-tight. The artist even matched glaze to the inside of the lid—it is the attention to details that separates the masters from the beginners.
The vessel is wonderfully thick and heavy, weighing in at 16.9 lbs! No matter where it will be displayed, this work of art will definitely make a statement and “hold its own”! See less
