This etching is an excellent proof of the first edition of 1799, before the bevels. Plate 17,9x12,1 cm; Sheet 29,2x19,3 cm. Provenance: Paul Proute Gallery, Paris, 1970 The state of preservation is very good. Francisco José de Goya y Lucientes was a Spanish painter and engraver. The scenes depicted in the series of Los Caprichos are inspired by the drawings that Goya made when he was in Andalusia and Madrid and by the series of drawings known as Sueños. In Los Caprichos the themes represented are varied: deception in the relationships between men and women, courtship, prostitution and marriages of convenience; ignorance, the exploitation of the people and the injustice of the law. This piece is attributed to the mentioned designer/maker. It has no attribution mark and no
official proof of authenticity,
