Pair of Jan Vaněk Curved Easy Chairs in Ash with Original Upholstery, Czechoslovakia, 1950s A beautifully preserved pair of mid-century modern easy chairs by Jan Vaněk, designed in 1950s Czechoslovakia. These sculptural pieces reflect Vaněk’s mastery of form and function, combining thoughtful ergonomics with a refined visual sensibility. Each chair is constructed from solid ash wood, known for its light tone and expressive grain. The curved armrests and legs are fluidly integrated into the frame, showcasing Vaněk’s signature craftsmanship and modernist ideals. The natural finish of the ash lends warmth and elegance, while the design’s gentle recline ensures relaxed seating. These pieces feature original period upholstery. The fabric, while rich in character and authenticity, shows minor signs of age and wear, as to be expected with vintage originals. We recommend reupholstering them prior to regular use to restore full comfort and ensure long-term preservation. This presents a unique opportunity to customize the chairs to suit contemporary interiors while preserving their iconic form. with dimensions of 90 cm depth, 66 cm width, 76 cm height, and a seat height of 37 cm, these chairs are perfectly scaled for reading corners, living rooms, or statement lounge settings. Their balanced proportions and sculptural appeal make them suitable for both residential and commercial interiors. This rare set represents a fine example of Czech mid-century design and Jan Vaněk’s commitment to elegant, utilitarian furniture that remains timeless and functional.
