Rare Japanese chest from the Meiji period, featuring five functional drawers and a storage compartment accessible via a small door.
Dimensions: Height: 40 cm, Width: 51 cm, Depth: 43 cm
Originally, this piece likely served as a ko-dansu (small chest of drawers), used to store writing tools, documents, or merchant items in traditional Japanese homes. The detailed iron fittings and compartment layout suggest both practical and decorative purposes.
Today, it makes a highly decorative and functional statement piece — ideal for displaying ceramics, books, plants, or small artworks, while also offering stylish storage for jewelry, stationery, or creative tools.
The chest bears signs of age and use, including old repairs and a beautifully aged patina, adding to its authentic character and timeless appeal.
