No need to adjust your glasses people… you’re eyes are not playing tricks on you… you ARE seeing DOUBLE!! That’s right… TWO chests of drawers = TWICE as NICE!!!! This is an extremely handsome vintage pair of chests of drawers made in Brazil by Singer. You heard that right… Singer… the sewing machine company!! We have included some interesting facts about the beginning and expansion of the company in a short blurb below… check it out!! They are labeled and composed of lovely hardwood frames bearing SEVEN spacious drawers each with hand carved wood pulls and veneered particleboard. We originally believed the wood to be walnut but after much research, location of the company at the time of production, and the presence of the knots in the wood, we believe it is more likely Brazilian Rosewood. Either way… it is GORGEOUS!!! Obviously, they would be AWESOME in a bedroom or dressing area, however, butted up next to each other they would make one IMPRESSIVE extra-large cabinet utilized in an entertainment room, large family room, or in a living or dining area filled with linens, towels, accessories, or anything that you need to stow away! They would also be fantastic placed side by side used as colonnade cabinets (a.k.a. room dividers!) Their marvelous Mid-Century Modern style borders with a little Scandinavian Modern magnificence and will be beautiful among almost any style décor. This is a highly functional, very versatile, pair of cabinets or chests of drawers with an elite reputation and a phenomenal presence you are sure to love for years to come.
Singer is an acclaimed company best known for its renowned sewing machines, but they also have a history of furniture production in Brazil. Singer established its first sewing machine factory in Latin America in Campinas, Brazil, opening on May 14, 1955. This factory, known as the Company Palmeiras Industrial Machinery and Furniture, initially produced both machines and furniture. The factory grew rapidly, exporting machines to Chile by 1958. As sales increased and production grew, new products were introduced, and the factory expanded, leading to the creation of additional units, including a needle factory in Indaiatuba and a new factory in 1997 in Juazeiro do Norte, Ceará, with all manufacturing eventually consolidated there by 2005. This plant, significantly expanded in 2005, is now Singer's only sewing machine manufacturing facility outside of China. While the exact timeline of Singer's furniture production in Brazil is not extensively detailed in the provided information, the establishment of the Company Palmeiras Industrial Machinery and Furniture suggests a period of furniture manufacturing in the mid-1950s and beyond. However, by the late 1980s, Singer was moving manufacturing to China, and by 1999, reports focused on financial difficulties.
