Born in Savannah, GA, Hector Dewart was an abstract painter, interior decorator, and picture frame maker. In the 1960s, he worked in Seattle with artists like Dale Chihuly and Guy Anderson. Returning to Savannah, he opened Dewart Gallery in 1973, collaborating with local artists like Ivan Bailey and Hattie Saussy. In 1980, he launched Dewart Gallery II with Ray Ellis.
