This suite of four woodblock prints are pages from, Hokusai Manga, a multi-volume series of sketchbooks by the Japanese artist Katsushika Hokusai (1760–1849). Originally published in the early 19th century, these pages capture Hokusai’s masterful observation of nature, form, and rhythm.
The two framed prints feature a stylized study of trees and a serene landscape with flying birds and distant mountains. Both are printed on aged washi paper, framed with 8-ply matting and painted red, gold gilt-sides with crackle-like finish. They measure, 7 3/8 x 5 1/8 in. (sight) and 13 3/4 x 11 1/4 in. framed.
The two unframed prints are presented in their original gallery Japanese-style folded album covers. They measure 7 3/4 x 5 1/2 in. (with margins).
Note: the two prints presented in the original gallery folders are laid down. There appears to be a white interleaf between the print and back cover. However the archival quality or neutral ph was not determined or confirmed.

They were not examined outside of the frame. Both are framed with a red painted moulding and gold crackled finish on the sides and front bevel detail. The moulding appears to be a stock moulding but is well matched to the Asian themed prints and each are matted with 8 ply mat board. The two unframed prints also appear to be in good condition aside from signs of toning and light foxing consistent with age. As Noted: the two unframed prints are laid down possibly on an archival backing sheet but was not verified. The outer board appears to be non ph-neutral or not archival material. less
