This expertly-crafted, elegant mohair lounge chair with solid brass base from the 1940s has a distinctive profile with clean, minimalist lines and style reference that bridges Art Deco and mid-century Scandinavian modern. This exceptional and historical vintage chair has been professionally restored and reupholstered in luxury mohair fabric in a gorgeous shade of mink. The lounge chair features a distinctive one-piece solid brass base which has been restored and polished to original sheen.
Provenance
This beautiful chair is part of a collection of furniture originally designed and custom built for the SS City of Midland 41, a luxury ferry liner that saw its heyday in the mid-20th century and traversed Lake Michigan from Michigan to Wisconsin. The interior of the vessel was decorated with period mid-century modern furniture, including furniture designed by Eero Saarinen and manufactured by Knoll. The interior design of the ship was commissioned to Chicago-based design firm Mandel Bros. The company was founded in 1855 and Mandel Bros. became one of Chicago's leading department stores. This chair was custom designed and fitted for the ship by the firm. We have a wide selection of furniture pieces that have been rescued from the ship and are undergoing professional restoration. This classic furniture would be perfect for home or hospitality setting.
Note: List price is for lounge chair only. Matching sofa for sale separately. Please reach out for custom orders.
