A serene and romantic vintage oil painting by listed artist Elizabeth J. Horning (American, b. 1943), titled “Sailboat Wishes.” This charming composition features a solitary woman in a flowing dress holding a parasol, standing before a Mediterranean-style building with arched blue-shuttered windows. The foreground blooms with vibrant impressionistic brushstrokes of wildflowers in rich hues of red, purple, and yellow. Sailboats glide across a calm sea in the background, partially obscured by soft, dappled trees overhead.
Signed Horning at lower right, this original work is framed in a rustic light wood frame with linen liner and gold accent. The verso retains the original label from Accent Graphics Inc. of Phoenix, Arizona, and a taped biography of the artist.
Elizabeth J. Horning, a graduate of the Rhode Island School of Design, is known for her expressive, colorful landscapes and florals. This piece is a fine example of her romantic realism, executed with a soft, poetic atmosphere.
