A rare and sculptural early 20th-century industrial rolltop desk or table by the Toledo Metal Furniture Company, featuring a richly patinated japanned steel frame with quarter-sawn oak work surfaces and a dramatic tambour enclosure. Originally designed for commercial or drafting use, this compact desk is both highly functional and visually compelling—equally suited for use as a unique bar or entry console.

The design features a distinctive roll-top tambour door with vertical metal slats and a curved top, which opens to reveal an interior fitted with five horizontal slots for organizing documents or tools. The work surface extends outward, flanked by hinged drop leaves that expand the desk’s usable width to 44 inches when fully opened. The base retains its original cast iron casters and signature Toledo form—angular yet fluid, with riveted joints and industrial character.

The finish is an aged and mottled black and copper japanning, giving the surface a burnished, almost camouflaged appearance. Branded on the tambour with the original “Uhl Art Steel Furniture / Toledo Metal Furniture Co.” mark.
