This vase is known as model 7117/16 and is a striking example of the refined artistic glass produced during the 1970s, and was designed by the renowned Czech glass artist Frantisek Vizner. Known for his minimalist sensibility and technical precision, Vizner created this piece as part of a series that emphasised form, clarity, and the intrinsic beauty of glass as a material.
This piece was produced at the innovative Skrdlovice Glassworks, which was famous for its experimental techniques and limited-production art glass. This vase reflects both Vizner’s personal design ethos and the broader Czech glass movement’s commitment to merging art and function and exemplifies the artist’s disciplined approach to form, proportion, and material clarity.
Blown from high-quality glass and subsequently ground and polished by hand, the vase features a refined subtly tapered form with an more organic structure on the bottom part that gave the piece its nickname “Pineapple”.
Vízner’s work is held in the permanent collections of MoMA (New York), Musée des Arts Décoratifs (Paris) and the Moravian Gallery (Brno). This vase is an authentic vintage piece and a collector-grade example of postwar Central European design.
