Description of the item:
Beautiful polychrome ceramic sculpture, glazed with a third firing. Depicting a large lady with a headdress and open skirt in her hands, in a classic Art Deco pose, signed under the base both by the Austrian manufacturer Goldscheider with an incised catalog number and by the artist with a handwritten signature, "DAKON." The sculpture was created by Stephan Dakon in full Art Deco style and can be dated between 1920 and 1930.
Useful information for evaluating the item:
Internet research shows that Stephan Dakon is one of the most important ceramists who worked for Goldscheider, especially for Art Deco ladies. He boasts numerous auction results, with the four highest in the ceramics category ranging from $4,500 to $12,406 plus 25-30% auction fees, while the four highest results in the sculpture category range from $5,000 to $18,000, plus fees, to give an idea of the maximum value of the artist's ceramics. Our sculpture is slightly smaller than the average Stephan Dakon sculpture, and on the most important art and antiques sales platforms, decorative figurines similar to ours are offered at a minimum of €1,200 up to €2,000-2,500.
