Item description:
Beautiful polychrome ceramic sculpture, glazed, enamelled and entirely hand-decorated in soft colors, depicting a loving couple of a lady and a little girl, presumably mother and daughter, dancing in nineteenth-century dress, made by the important Austrian manufacturer Goldscheider in the early decades of the twentieth century, marked under the base with the manufacturer's mark and signed by the artist "Gruber," with catalog number and inscription on the base "Tanzstunde," made in Austria. In the last photos, we have included the same mark used by Goldscheider between 1900 and 1920, the catalog photo of the sculpture, number 4837, from the Goldscheider general catalog, created in 1917-1918 by Franz Gruber.
Useful information for evaluating the item:
Our web research shows that Franz Gruber has achieved various auction results with estimates ranging from $100-300 for smaller, simpler sculptures to estimates of $800-1,000 for larger, more complex ones, with results of over €1,100 excluding auction fees of 25-30%. In addition, on various online art and antiques sales sites, we found several items by this artist offered at considerable prices. Goldscheider, on the other hand, is one of the most important Austrian manufacturers of the 19th and 20th centuries and boasts numerous auction results. It is particularly famous for its Orientalist terracotta works, and the four highest results achieved for this type of sculpture range from €11,000 to €23,000, again excluding auction fees of 25-30%. just to give an idea of the importance of this manufacturer.
Final considerations on the object:
The sculpture is made in full Art Nouveau style, with very delicate polychromy, which gives the object a wonderful evanescent flavor, a real touch of class that makes the sculpture diaphanous and soft in colors and lines, echoing the impressionist style of the late 1800s.
Information about the artist and/or manufacturer:
The Austrian manufacturer Goldscheider was founded in 1885 by the famous entrepreneur and artist Friedrich Goldscheider and remained active until 1954. This manufacturer is considered one of the most important in the world, collaborating with the most important sculptors and ceramists of the time, such as Lorenzl, Dakon, Knorlein, Meisinger, Goebel, Cherc, Rosè, and many others. It boasts numerous auction results and many collectors.
