A small yet very impactful mid century abstract figurative oil composition, by the established Swedish artist Ivar Morsing (1919-2009), whose works have been exhibited in public collections including the National Museum in Stockholm, Moderna Museet in Stockholm, Kalmar Museum, and Jönköping Museum.

The painting captures the delicate stillness of a seated female figure through a haze of muted earth tones and gestural brushwork. The composition is softened by a palette of dark green, cream, dusty rose, black, and pale blue, evoking a dreamlike ambiance.

The figure, loosely rendered, appears to be draped in a light dress, reclining against an abstracted backdrop that hints at foliage or stone. The artist has used confident, impressionistic strokes to blur the boundaries between subject and setting, allowing light and shadow to dissolve form. The painter’s technique embraces abstraction, with layered brushwork and softened edges creating an evocative play between motion and stillness.

This oil on board is housed in a complementary wide profile gilt frame. The painting is in excellent vintage condition. There are some very minor scuffs to the frame, but it is in very good condition overall.
