A late 19th century, American School seascape showing a lyrical view of sunlit waves flowing in towards a rocky beach. The unknown artist shows exceptionally sensitive handling of light in the interplay of sky and water and suitable gravitas in the massivity of the foreground rocks. Unsigned and painted circa 1880.
Displayed in a period, gilt-gesso and carved wood frame.
