Rustic, handmade ceramics from Apulia, Italy.
Originally used as a storage vessel, it also makes a decorative vase. Its simple design and glaze have a slight color gradient.
Imperfections and signs of wear are characteristic of this storage vessel.
The "ceramica rustica" from Grottaglie are distinguished by their special glazing techniques. The pottery tradition in Grottaglie has always been preserved.
The old, wood-fired kilns, which were in operation until around 1960, were never completely controllable and regularly caused surprises. If the temperature was too high, for example, the colors of the glaze would run – an effect that contributes to the charm of this ceramic and no longer occurs naturally with today's precisely adjustable gas or electric kilns.
