This vintage Turkish Kilim, measuring 5' by 11'3", is handwoven with wool on a wool foundation in the Oushak region of Turkey. Kilims and flatweaves are characterized by their pile-free construction, achieved by tightly interlacing warp and weft threads to create a smooth, flat surface. Typically crafted on horizontal looms, this technique results in sharp geometric patterns. Lighter and softer than traditional pile rugs, kilims have historically been used as sofa covers, drapes, pillows, tablecloths, and wall hangings, serving both decorative and insulating purposes against cold temperatures.
