Red elm as the name suggests has a more red tone and has a more aesthetically pleasant grain. It was considered in China to be superior to its northern elm relative. Red elm is the typical wood used in pieces from Jiangsu province.
This style of table is also known as a tea table, this particular piece has a cracked ice shelf at the base, usually a mark of quality.
