Here, Avalokiteshvara appears in their female form, while sitting on a lotus base and performing the vitarka mudra gesture (the mudra of teaching or discussion) with her right hand. The left hand performs the varada mudra (symbolizing compassion, charity, and boon-granting). Similar pieces have been dated to the late 18th/early 19th centuries. This example is roughly 4.75" tall and 3" deep. We believe it to be bronze or copper in composition. See less
