From general research, this appears to be an antique french walnut humidor. It has a reddish-brown-white marble top, a single drawer above the marble-lined cabinet, applied carvings on the front and sides, and cabriole legs, finley carved on the upper knee portion, ending in scroll-shaped feet. The veneer is arranged in a lovely diamond pattern on the front and both sides. The drawer is constructed with hand cut dovetails. The piece likely had a lower shelf originally (now missing). These pieces are described as dating from the end of the 19th century.
This piece is in good antique condition, and looks to have been well cared for, having only gentle wear commentsurate with its age. When I purchased the piece, the bottom section of marble within the cabinet was slightly askew. In trying to rearrange it, I discovered that the bottom, left side, back and top were all loose due to old, brittle glue. These four pieces of marble were removed, all five received a gentle cleaning (some staining to the marble interior remains) and then the marble was reglued, with hide glue, similar to what would have been used on the original. Some cracking is evident in the marble top. I touched up a small section in the lower left hand corner that may have been filled @ one point. There is a minuiscule amount of veneer missing in the center of the diamonds on the sides and minor evidence of woodworm which adds to the authenticity, and is not unusual w/antique pieces from europe (it would have been fumigated before shipping). There is a minor ding on the top edge (right-hand side) and a tiny chip missing from one leg. The card in the second collage was found in the drawer; I imagine the humidor may have been purchased on a trip abroad. Please see all pictures to ensure you are happy with your purchase.
The piece is 34 inches tall overall, 15.25 inches in width @ the legs, 15.5 inches in width @ the top. The upper cabinet is 15 inches in height w/the legs measuring 19 inches in height.
