Description of the item:
Pair of cast ceramic birds, ceramic with added kaolin, also known as soft porcelain, polychrome and glazed, from England, dating back to the 20th century, 1900, both signed under the base by the manufacturer "Beswick" and with the name of the bird species depicted, "goldfinch" and "stonechat."
Information about the artist and/or manufacturer:
John Beswick was a ceramics manufacturer who founded the Beswick company in 1892, together with James Wright Beswick and his sons, John and Gilbert Longton, in Stoke-on-Trent. In 1969, the company was sold to Doulton & Co. and closed in 2002, with the John Beswick brand being sold in 2004. Beswick's artistic ceramics were mainly known for the production of high-quality porcelain figurines such as farm animals and Beatrix Potter characters and, over the years, became highly sought after in the international collectors' market.
