description of the item:
a wonderful ceramic couple depicting two ballroom dancers, entirely hand-decorated and finished with a silvery metallic lustre, similar to the artistic works created in gualdo tadino. Both sculptures were created using thin ceramic drapery, modeled and worked entirely by hand by the artist. These are therefore two unique pieces, signed under the base "palladio vicenza italy."
useful information for evaluating the item:
our online research shows that tony moretto's ceramic figurines are offered for sale at a minimum of €200, rising to €900-1,000 for larger pieces. It should be noted that our pair is finished with a lustre, which is extremely rare for tony moretto's sculptures and certainly increases their value.
information about the artist and/or manufacturer:
the palladio factory, owned by painter otello de maria and theater actor gigi tomasi, was founded in the late 1940s and is based in vicenza, in via san marcello. Over the years, the company expanded to employ about fifteen artisans who produced modern traditional majolica and terracotta, rustic pieces, and copies of antique pieces, ranging from decorative plates with animal motifs to decorative plaques with images of the city and small hand-modeled sculptures. In 1955, the workshops were moved to via del quartiere 15. Among the ceramists who collaborated with the factory, in addition to the owner, we remember toni moretto and giovanni duso in the early 1950s.
