origin nancy
period last quarter of the 19th century
brand the daum glassworks, founded in 1878 in nancy by jean daum, became one of france's most important artistic manufactures thanks to his sons auguste and antonin. It was antonin himself who led the company's stylistic transformation, making it one of the leading exponents of art nouveau , particularly within the école de nancy movement . Daum's production was distinguished by the refined use of innovative techniques such as etched glass, acid satin-finishing, and especially pâte de verre , which enabled sculptural creations with intense, opalescent colors. Collaborating with artists such as henri bergé , jacques grüber and amalric walter , daum created striking works, often inspired by nature. International success came with the grand prix at the 1900 paris world's fair. In the interwar period, under the leadership of paul daum , the company moved toward the art deco style, with more geometric and sober shapes, adapting to modern tastes. After the war, daum continued to innovate, even collaborating with contemporary artists such as salvador dalí and césar. To this day, he is the only crystal maker in the world to entirely master the pâte de verre technique, producing unique works of art of the highest caliber, exhibited in major french museums and collected worldwide.
