Traute Lossau was born in 1933 in Königsberg, former Germany. She studied at the School of Fashion in London and then worked for Norman Hartnell, the Queen's dressmaker.

The large ceramic tiles were manufactured in England where they were painted by the artist for KMK-Keramik.
