A figure crouched in thought, carved from veined marble, gazes outward with knowing eyes. Upon his crown, a fierce jaguar—open-jawed and eternal. His form echoes ancient Mesoamerican artistry, likely inspired by depictions of Tezcatlipoca, the shadow god. Traces of myth cling to every line.
This hand-carved sculpture conjures the mystique of the Aztec and Mayan past. Its presence adds weight and gravitas to any curated collection or global-inspired décor. A substantial piece for those drawn to the echoes of empire and story.
Tezcatlipoca (Classical Nahuatl: Tēzcatlīpohca [teːs̻kat͡ɬiːˈpoʔkaˀ]) or Tezcatl Ipoca was a central deity in Aztec religion. He is associated with a variety of concepts, including the night sky, hurricanes, obsidian, and conflict. He was considered one of the four sons of Ometecuhtli and Omecihuatl, the primordial dual deity. His main festival was Toxcatl, which, like most religious festivals of Aztec culture, involved human sacrifice.
Originally a deity from the Toltec peoples, Tezcatlipoca was primarily seen as the god of night and sorcery, as well as the patron god of kings and warriors. He was also believed to be a prolific shapeshifter, more often transforming into a jaguar, his spotted skin and fur representing the starry night sky.
