A stunning period full-color print of painting Femme Au Fauteuil (Woman at the Chair) by French artist Henri Matisse (1869-1954). Comes from a rare First Limited Edition art folio of the artist published by Albert Skira in Geneva, Switzerland in the 1940s. Signed in the print (printed) at the lower right corner: "H. Matisse". Printed on one side. Numbered at the lower right corner: 2. Excellent condition - never framed.
Matisse could hardly remain indifferent to the experiments of the Cubists, and these spurred him on to a more intense and rigorous simplification of forms. Concern for the subject gave way to a single-minded concern for the structural virtues of the canvas, whose every element took its destined place in a compact organizational scheme. Intense and pungent, his colors still strike an equable balance and suggest composure within a stark, almost rugged system of forms.
