A striking large vintage First Edition period full-color print of Cubist still life "Glass and Guitar" (1920) by a major 20th-century French painter, collagist, draughtsman, printmaker and sculptor Georges Braque. Comes from a rare First Limited Edition art folio published by Albert Skira in Geneva, Switzerland, in the 1940s. Printed on one side. Numbered at the lower right corner: 3. Excellent condition - never framed.
This picture, one of the finest examples of the great flowering of still lifes that characterizes Braque's work just after the war, is painted on the black ground he used so often from 1918 to 1926, which accentuates spatial depth and the resonance of colors set off by warm sustaining passages of light brown and grayish white.
