This duck figurine with its gold beak is representative of Yapacunchi black glazed ceramics with iridescent colors. The colors range from blue to gold to purple to green. I have not been able to find another duck or any other animal with the same style and glaze. It retains its original labels on the bottom. It is a colorful charming accent piece.
Yapacunchi Ceramica is produced in Cuenca, Ecuador. This pottery tradition has a rich history in the Andean region of Ecuador, dating back centuries. Cuenca was a prominent center for ceramic artistry, and the tradition continues to be vibrant, with contemporary artists adding to its legacy.
