This set of nine (9) authentic 19th century engravings on wood (sometimes referred to as woodcuts; sometimes incorrectly referred to as "lithographs") depict varieties of ferns. These prints were published in London by Groombridge & Sons in 1867. Printed on creamy white stock on one side only. These prints are priced at $39 and up online. This work was one of the earliest works to concentrate solely on the subject of the fern. Great for a large wall treatment or several smaller groupings. Dimensions: Apprx. 7" x 10".
Edward Joseph Lowe was an independently wealthy naturalist and member of the Royal society, who also published other botanical works. A.F. Lydon was the artist and supervised the color engraving of the plates.
