This beautifully restored H-259 “Spider” model coffee table is an original design by Jindřich Halabala, one of Czechoslovakia’s most influential modernist furniture designers. Manufactured in the 1940s by UP Závody, the table exemplifies the marriage of functionalist design with elegant, organic form.
Its distinctive character comes from the dynamic, sculptural silhouette created by the four curved, outward-sweeping solid beech legs, which earned it the nickname “Spider.” The tabletop features richly grained yellowish-brown walnut veneer, showcasing a warm, natural tone that enhances the table’s visual depth and vintage charm.
The piece has been professionally restored with great care and respect for its original materials. The surface has been treated with natural hard oil and beeswax, preserving the authentic texture and sheen of the wood while offering durable protection. The rounded square top and thick tabletop edge contrast beautifully with the slender, elegant legs, creating a harmonious balance of mass and lightness.
This rare mid-century piece fits effortlessly into a variety of interiors, from vintage and art deco to Bauhaus or contemporary spaces. Whether in a living room, gallery, or design studio, it serves as both a functional surface and a sculptural statement.
