Item description:
murano blown glass handkerchief vase with aventurine silver leaf inclusions and various murrine inclusions. Brown mouth and transparent on the rest of the vase. The object dates back to the second half of the 20th century and bears the original label of the nason artistic glassworks. It is signed "nason" under the diamond-shaped base. The vase can be attributed to carlo nason, the most important of the three brothers, based on its type of workmanship and shape. Murrine are pieces of glass of various shapes obtained by cutting glass rods made of different colors of glass layered one inside the other.
useful information for evaluating the object:
from a web search, we find that carlo nason has numerous auction results, the four highest results we found range from over €7,000 to over €13,000, plus auction fees of 25-30%. As for handkerchief vases similar to ours, auction prices and prices on other leading online art and antiques sales platforms range from €300-400 to over €700-1,000, depending on the size and complexity of the object.
information about the artist and/or manufacturer:
v. Nason & c. Was founded in the 1930s by vincenzo nason, heir to one of the oldest families in murano. The glassworks established itself during the island's artistic heyday, with a brand that became well known in italy and abroad. The company, covering an area of 6,000 square meters, had about twenty furnaces and was able to produce up to 15 different colors every day. It was one of the last furnaces to continue the production of industrial glass, including, for example, lighting components, bathroom accessories, and dental office equipment. It has always been run by members of the family, namely vincenzo, carlo, aldo, ermanno, emilio, angelo, and giampaolo nason. At its peak, until 2000, the company had about 80 employees and was one of the largest on the island of murano. In 2004, nason & c. Closed its doors and was declared bankrupt.
