Item description:
beautiful large jug in classic style, similar to ancient roman or greek jugs, made of ceramic molded on a potter's wheel, glazed and vitrified, entirely hand-decorated with geometric patterns on the shoulder, lower part of the body, and foot. It has a large ribbon handle, rather wide with a raised central ridge and a large curl on the mouth of the jug and a smaller one on the shoulder attachment. Signed under the base "sda farfa al", dating from the first half of the 20th century. The jug can be attributed to vittorio osvaldo tommasini, a famous italian artist known by the name of farfa. The jug is quite large, measuring 37 centimeters in height. The ceramic biscuit is very thick and heavy, considering that the jug weighs more than 1.5 kg.
useful information for evaluating the item:
our web research has revealed that the artist farfa, pseudonym of vittorio osvaldo tommasini, has achieved numerous auction results. The four highest results we found in the paintings category range from €3,000 to just over €8,000. As for ceramics, we found a small vase sold by the il ponte auction house in 2024, lot number 404, for €400. Then there is a plate sold by the finarte auction house in 2023, lot number 152, for €1,600, another sold at the fondaco auction house in 2012, lot 128, for €900, and a pair of plates, also at the same fondaco auction, lot 120, for €1,200. All prices are subject to auction fees of 25-30%. Unfortunately, we have not found any jugs similar to ours, but we are certainly talking about a very important artist, as demonstrated by the numerous auction prices found.
