Antique Victorian glass carafe in the shape of a cockatoo.
The head and feet are made of gilt bronze.
Colored glass eyes. Green translucent body. Translucent handle.
These highly decorative and amusing glass carafes in the shape of animals were already very popular in Victorian Britain at the end of the 19th century. Originally, they served as wine decanters. Today, they are sought-after collector's items.
The glass carafe offered here was made around 1900.
The gilt bronze head has slight signs of wear consistent with age. There is some wear in the bronze and gilding, as it was a functional object. The glass is in good condition.
The carafe is not hallmarked or signed, but has been dated around 1900 by a renowned German auction house.
Very fine, heavy quality.
