A fantastic gray and white limestone table, the richly carved legs are after table supports found during excavations of Pompeii in the mid- to late-1800s (from Casa di Cornelio Rufo). The two and a half inch thick top, which has a stone gray hue, is embellished with thinly recessed quarter-round edges detailed with a repeating partial leaf motif. Visible shell inclusions and depressions can be seen on the top, enhancing the appeal of the table.
In contrast, the two legs have a white palette that allows the wonderful carvings to stand out. Both legs consist of a pair of monopodial griffins with their addorsed wings touching. In between the two mythical creatures is a sprawling acanthus mollis, with a flowering stalk extending from the closed corolla. Beneath the griffins is a rectangular plinth with subtle chamfered edges that give the beautiful table ample support. Our richly carved limestone table can be used indoors or outside.
