A superb pair of monumental ancestor portraits from the Qing dynasty, circa 1830. Depicting a high-ranking court official and his wife, the couple are wearing vibrant blue robes with embroidered details and embroidered rank badges prominently displayed. The male wears a Qingdai guanmao, or officials hat captured in fine detail, while the wife is adorned with a variety of exquisite hairpins and ornaments. The couple are restrained and dignified, their facial expressions captured in a masterful lifelike manner.
The portraits are displayed behind cream-colored silk mats with gold filets and elegant Art Deco frames.

There are some foxing spots to both, but they are small and scattered. Small areas of old restoration and inpainting visible on close inspection. Female portrait frame has a scuff to the upper right side. Not examined outside of frames. less
